Tomorrow, we wake up at the crack of dawn. Breakfast is at 6am. The hike to the summit of Austria's highest glacier, Großvenediger, will be arduous and the talk amongst hikers is that it is extremely important to have your sunglasses on whilst on the glacier. I'm screwed. I left my sunglasses in Hinterbichl. My inexperienced mountaineering mind wonders, in all naiveness, if it will be painful to stare at the brilliant white of the ice, and if there is any possibility of irreversible retinal damage. More so, the subsequent question is: Should I risk hiking across the glacier at all, or should I stay back to enjoy my Austrian breakfast without any rush?
